Do you want to help your students change their communities? Are there any budding social entrepreneurs in your classroom? If so, Youth Venture wants to know about them!
This semester, Youth Venture, Dr. Seuss, Earth Island Institute and the NEA are partnering to bring the Lorax Challenge to your school. Your school can be one of 500 schools that have been carefully selected from across the across the country to participate in a national STUDENT ACTION campaign to raise awareness for and offer solutions to local and global environmental problems.
To participate in the Challenge, students will be asked to become Venturers – young people who take action to make a difference in their schools and communities. Venturers will form teams, identify environmental problems they want to address, and design their own organizations or Ventures to solve them. When ready, Venture teams will receive up to $1,000 to start their Ventures, a host of tools and resources from Youth Venture, and the support of a global community of young changemakers. ALL CHALLENGE APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN BY MIDNIGHT, MAY 31 2008!
Students will also get a chance to compete to be one of five winning teams that will be sent to University of Florida this summer for a weekend of activities, learning and be celebrated as a true changemaker. (Please note that only high school students are eligible for the Grand Prize.) Please email us at loraxchallenge@youthventure.org to sign your school up for the Challenge and receive a kit with all you need to make the Challenge available to your students!
You can also encourage your students to apply for the Brower Youth Awards, the premier awards honoring bold young environmental leaders. Challenge partner Earth Island Institute will award six winners across North America with a $3,000 prize for their environmental achievements. Find out more at www.broweryouthawards.org
