The first two Tu Voz Teams
Here are short paragraphs describing the first two Tu Voz My Venture teams to launch. You can find summaries of all 50 Tu Voz teams at www.genv.net/tuvoz
BioMotors: Veggies give you GAS
The BioMotors team is focused on assisting the Latino community in a movement to expand awareness on the environmental crisis created by consuming fossil fuels and losing the earth’s ozone layer. They have created a biodiesel project to convert an old school bus diesel engine to run on used vegetable oil. The project will demonstrate a realistic example of replacing dirty diesel fuel with either biodiesel or used vegetable oil collected from fast food restaurants and will provide an opportunity to design a bus with diagrams of the conversion process. The development of their plan to convert their bus will also serve to get youth involved in more activities in the community by using the bus to transport youth on educational field trips, college visits, and community events.
Walls to Canvas
The purpose of From Walls to Canvas is to teach other teenagers the history of art and graffiti art. They plan to work with Latino youth from poor and dangerous neighborhoods to show them how graffiti art and other kinds of art can be used in different ways and be made into a job and career instead of being used to vandalize property and get in trouble. The teens will use art to make different things to sell like t-shirts, posters, cards, bags and other accessories. They can then sell these things at an art show, in a silent auction, or on the internet. College students will come to mentor the teens and to help them learn different things about art and lettering styles.
