What if the only books you ever had were the ones at school?!?!?!
Imagine that the only books that you ever had were the ones from school: heavy textbooks, dogeared paperbacks, and laborious novels. There would be no incentive to lose yourself in a book...come to think of it maybe that's why so many books are lost at school each year!

Having a Book of Your Own = Happiness
Image
Most of the children we serve have never had the pleasure of owning their very own book before. We set our standards high- we only distribute books that are new. They have to feel, smell, and look perfect. By doing this we are enhancing the experience of having your own book and making reading more important. The children love the idea of having their very own BRAND NEW book. Ownership is part of the key to making reading fun.

Child Soldiers of the LRA
Image

Many children are abducted to be used as combatants. Others are made to serve as porters, cooks, guards, servants, messengers, or spies. Many young girls are forced to marry or perform sexual services for male combatants. Male and female child soldiers are often sexually abused, and are vulnerable to contracting sexually transmitted diseases. Young females are at high risk of unwanted pregnancies

Pushy Parents
In this week’s blog I wanted to address a topic that I haven’t addressed yet but a topic I find myself discussing on a regular basis which is ‘Pushy Parents.’ With the financial rewards for success getting even bigger and bigger and with more young people in the media spotlight is it creating more pushy parents?
Getting the right start – School selection
Over the last couple of weeks the news that has been revolving around the educational world and some of then national headlines has been the selection process of parents selecting a school for their child. According to news today one in five parents didn’t get their child in to their first choice school. Now I know every parent wants the best for their child but my parents never got the chance to select my school, I just went to my nearest school and got a quite adequate education.
The National Association for Gifted Children
It's seems as though the media are only interested in pushing stories which are negative when it comes to young people and the image of young people. It's always the young people who are up to no good or the schools that are failing that grab the headlines. With the amount of negative press young people get on a local and national basis many people now believe that the youth of today are a group of lawless trouble makers who have no interest in doing well at school or having good careers.
