About Us

For Young Individuals 10304 is designed by the youth in efforts to address the needs of the youth in the community.

During my time in high school, I held a few jobs. I worked at McDonalds for 3 years, worked at a tanning salon. The job that I enjoyed the most was working at the summer camp. When working at McDonalds and the tanning salon, I would say to myself, " I feel like I am helping people get obese and cancer". I wanted a job where I felt I was making a change, helping people improve their lives. I saw a lot of things in my community that bothered me, such as the drug dealing, the violence, youth fighting, shooting, and killing each other, and dropping out of school as early as the 8th grade. I was alos sad to see teen pregnancy, teens having life threatening disease. With the communitites lack of knowledge and the basic skills of life to fill out applications for jobs, school financial aid or any application for that matter, my peers going to other uneducated people for relationship advice, weather it is family, friends, sex, helth, or parenting. This is a cycle.
The cycle of our neighbors strung out on drugs, having life threatening diseases, being continuously incarcerated, or murdered or mudering is our cycle. You couldn't notice the older generation was gone because my generation was taking their place. If these acts are happening here in our commmunity it is all of our problem.
I would talk and sit with my Mom and we would discuss why my life was so different from those who were living in the same community. We both agreed that it had a lot to do with the values and morals at home and also the programs that my mom had me involved in when I was younger. I then decided to create a organization that I can share all of the knowledge that I have with others.
I believe that no matter what situation, life experiance, or age that anyone with the drive can accomplish whatever they put their mind to. We as a community need to give each other the support that we need to accomplish these goals.....So, For Young Individuals (FYI10304) was created.w

FYI 10304 is looking for financial support. We are looking for professionals who are willing to share their area of exepertise and partnership with other existing organizations to help FYI be a success.

How does your group impact your community?

FYI10304 impacts the community with education. FYI10304 plans to help deter some of the major issues of our youth are facing. We plan to have book drives to conquer illiteracy. FYI is having a continuous penny and loose change drive for whatever the direct needs in the community are. FYI10304 in partnership with the JCC Beacon program at I.S. 49 is offering FREE GED classes and FREE adult computer classes. We hold workshops to educate the community on sex/health education, formal education and higher learning, job preperation, resume writing. All possible issues that the youth want to discuss and address. We also teach the importance of votingand have registered people to vote and work at the polling sites. Community Service Projects (CSP) to stress the importance of giving back (Pay it Forward)

How many people have been impacted by your group?

We have impacted some people. We have registered 25 new voters. We had 3 people to fill out applications to work at the polling sites. We will continue to register people to vote all year around. We had 5 people participate in a CSP at the local JHS Valentines Day Dance. FYI took 6 girls to NYC Young Womens Summit, who participated in Community Service Projects and panel discussion.

Looking back we should have...

Looking back we should have waited to come out to the community. We launched our idea before we went through the process with YV. We did that because we were not counting on the seed money. We wanted to create For Young Individuals even if YV did not think it was a good idea. My advice would be, "It is OK to go at your own pace and do not rush the process" Even though we went ahead and did things a little faster, there is some good to it. I have met many people along the way. I have met people who have given me other chances to do other things involving FYI.

Looking back we did a great job at...

Looking back we did a great job at getting our thoughts out, putting them down on paper and getting other people to see our vision. We have been doing a great job working as a team. We have done a great job keeping up with appointments and networking.

What we really enjoy about being young changemakers is...

We enjoy being changemakers because it allows us to meet other people who want to make change as well. Making change makes me feel complete and puts a smile on my face as well as others.

Have you faced any difficulties? Were you able to solve them? If so, how? If not, what would have been helpful to you?

We have struggled with getting people in the community involved. Raising money. We are still working on getting people in the community involved. We are working on ways to people to commit financial support to this venture. My famlies income is what has been supporting this venture since November 7, 2007. Not a easy thing to do. I have to make this work somehow................any ideas????????

What upcoming plans do you have for your Venture? How will your Venture continue to benefit the community?

We are working on a NO Violence Day. We are also working on many of the bussiness aspects of our Venture, such as logo, website, t-shits. We are now in the provcess working very hard on the marketing point of our venture. My plans for a No Violence Day in August. I plan to hold this event at Cromwell Center. The day will consist of panel discussions with police department and residents. There will also be discussions with people who have been victims of violence well as people who have perpetrated violence against the community, that have paid their debt and have changed their lives around. After all that is what FYI's mission. We want to restore Hope to the community. I also want fun activities after the education part of the day is done. I want basketball games and any other games that can be played with the police. Not teams vs each other but to bring the both sides together and they play and win and loose together. I want to be able to have food such as hot dogs pop corn cotton candy sect. I want all of my friends to support FYI so we can have a successful day. I am calling on my friends to make a donation to FYI for this day. Your money will go towards t-shirts, dj, food, drinks, rental of pop corn and cotton candy machine, paper products forks, napkins ect. We would also like to put our sponsors on the t-shirts

Describe your relationship with your Ally and your Partner Organization.

Our Ally is very supportive. They give suggestions and guidence that helps FYI go in the right direction. FYI has done work with the Cromwell Recreation Center. Cromwell is supportive by letting us use the computer room so we can make our phamplets, bussiness cards and as well as hold meetings. We also reach out the youth that go to the center to participate in FYI activities, the enourage that.
